Electronic Monitoring Devices to Support Inhalation Technique in Patients with Asthma: a Narrative Review

Abstract Purpose of Review Improper inhaling technique is common and associated with poor patient outcomes. However, digital e-health devices may offer novel opportunities for educational support. This narrative review provides an overview electronic monitoring (EMDs) measuring inhalation technique. We summarise their technical features, capabilities limitations discuss the steps necessary implementation in clinical practice. Recent Findings Six EMDs were identified. The quality published evidence varied widely. Devices differed measured, feedback provided type sensor employed. Sustainability battery life according to whether built into inhalers or add-ons. Nevertheless, all could reliably capture diverse inhaler errors, some can guide interventions follow-up treatment. In addition, serve as early warning system exacerbations. Summary New-generation measure technique, yet there limited data on preferences, acceptability monitoring, cost-effectiveness influence outcomes, representing areas further research.
